One of the most diverse counties in southwest Virginia. From the agricultural enterprises of Shawsville and Elliston, to the commercial areas of Christiansburg, to the Hokies of Virginia Tech and the groundbreaking research in Blacksburg the County is home to a variable market. Virginia Tech has been the center of Blacksburg since its founding in 1872 and is the largest employer in the area. Saturdays are alive in the fall with the Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange of the ACC-champion Hokies. Christiansburg is home to the area's retail marketing center in the New River Valley Mall and surrounding businesses.
