On September 2004, The New York Daily News launched Hora Hispana, an all Spanish language, free, weekly newspaper.
Hora Hispana focuses its editorial to new arrivals and 1st and 2nd generation Hispanics. Many of the lifestyle features include health, education, food, entertainment/celebrity, and practical "How to" information to better serve the Hispanic community.
Hora Hispana's audited circulation of 160,000 is distributed door to door every Thursday to targeted neighborhoods in New York City and Hudson County, New Jersey with the highest percentage of Hispanics - Washington Heights, Spanish Harlem, Corona, Jackson Heights, Sunset Park, South Bronx and Union City are just some of the heavily populated Hispanic areas.
Hora Hispana serves the Ecuadorian, Mexican and Colombian populations of the area.
The newspaper is delivered door to door in New York's premier delivery bag. The bag carries all the weekly supermarkets, drug store chains, and major retailer's circulars. It has a built in marketplace for shopping. Hora Hispana wraps all the circulars. Hora Hispana's name is on the bag.
The recent CAC audit indicates that the targeted households are responding positively to Hora Hispana. Testimonials from Juan Valdez Coffee and Accion New York show how effective the newspaper can be for advertisers.
Hora Hispana began a monthly food and good living guide in 2006 called "Buen Provecho". The special section is featured monthly and is an ideal environment for the supermarket and packaged goods category.
Hora Hispana launched a billboard campaign throughout its distribution areas. Over 210 billboards were posted for an 8-week period starting the last week in February.
