Irondequoit is an Iroquois word meaning "where the land meets the waters," a close-knit residential community bordered on three sides by water. Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes, lies to the North, Irondequoit Bay to the east and the Genesee River to the west. Since long ago, Irondequoit has been a favorite summer recreation destination with a long history of watersports recreation such as boating and fishing.
